Comedian Sarah Silverman struck a blow for affordable fashion at this year's Emmy Awards when she strutted on the red carpet in a stunning little black dress that she told reporters she bought online for $60 from Stop Staring Clothing. Unfortunately Silverman, who reportedly tried on several outfits before choosing the low-cut, curve-defining, black cocktail dress, got both the brand and the price wrong. The official name of her outfit is The Vamp Dress in Black by Deadly Dames, one of the house brands of Pinup Girl Clothing, which specializes in vintage-inspired fashions for women of all sizes. Instead of $60, The Vamp Dress sells for $110. "It's still a steal at $110," says Natasha Estrada, director of public relations for Pinup Girl Clothing. She notes that dresses worn at the Emmy Awards typically cost $5,000 to $20,000 or more. "It would have been great if (Silverman) had credited us, but we're happy just the same," says Estrada. The company has been in touch with Silverman's publicist, and is working to get the word out that it was their creation that Silverman wore on Sunday night's red carpet. "We were thrilled to have her in our dress," Estrada says. "We're huge fans of hers, and she really embodies the spirit we want to celebrate." Known for her snarky persona and her quirky style at red carpet events, Silverman paired her bargain-priced dress with shoes by Walter Steiger, which can retail for $500 to $1,100 or more. So Silverman's accessible-fashion statement might have ended at her knees, but she still highlighted the fact that looking good doesn't have to break the bank.
